My family and I have been traveling to the Cancun and Playa Del Carmen area for the last 5 or 6 years and have never felt unsafe. Although with all the violence occurring on the border I wanted to find out, recently, if anyone has had an unsafe experience in their resort, tourist areas or just shopping in Playa Del Carmen?

When you are a tourist in Playa del Carmen or Cancun, or living there such as I do, you should just be careful as you would any city you are traveling to or living in. Yes I see the federales all the time in Playa and Cancun. One should remember, this is Mexico, not America. Things are done differently. There is a trickle affect down the coast due to the beheadings northern Mexico. But the federales are there to protect the tourists, so you are actually safer in the Riviera Maya than you would be in many other cities in America.
Again, Playa del Carmen is a lovely place to visit or live.

It's no secret that Cancun is the place for fun in the sun but it has much more. It is a tropical paradise with something to offer to everyone. Cancun Hotel Zone is an island with beautiful white sand beaches and hotels all along the 25 km Hotel Zone.

There are lots of reports about war and affiliated terrorists activities in Mexico go un-reported in media. The situation is inferior than you can almost certainly imagine. The US and possibly other governments have released cautions or notices about that.
