I am on holiday in Townsville at the end of March this year with my husband and son and want to travel from Townsville to Cairns and ask which form of travel is the best, cheapest and fastest. Also can anyone recommend a reasonable priced hotel?

Mission Beach very nice, right on the beach somewhere around $180 per dbl
if you like looking at the rainforest and heritage, at Paronella Park they have rooms there or across the road at the hotel reasonably priced but just to see Paronella Park itself is worth the trip, or Tully Motel
It would would normally take us 5 hours comfortable driving Tsv to Cairns pulling up for a snack along the way at Cardwell by the sea

My fiancee and I will be traveling the east coast of Australia for a couple of weeks in May for our honeymoon, and have decided to take the bus from Townsville (after spending 4 nights on Magnetic Island) to Cairns, where we're finishing our trip. It seems that the bus is significantly less expensive than flying ($50 to $60 per person vs. $185+), only takes about 6 hours, and we thought it would be a good way to see some of the coast and countryside. We also thought about taking the train but it doesn't run on the day we need to travel.
