Getting around Jasper

Postby mustobe on Mon Mar 28, 2011 3:40 pm

I'm going to Jasper this August, and I'm getting there by train. Could someone please explain to me the options I have for getting around Jasper (I don't drive) and also possibly suggest any hotels/B&B's that I could stay at that aren't miles and miles away from the national park?

Thank you!

If you don't drive then you should stay right in the heart of the Jasper townsite near the train station. There are many hotels within walking distance of the train station and that have many nearby restaurants and shops. I have stayed at the Athabasca Hotel and enjoyed the experience. With Jasper the issue isn't that hotels are miles away from the NP as the park is huge it is that Jasper has many cabin and lodge type accommodations a short drive from town. These would be a problem for a non-driver. However there are more than enough hotels near the main streets of Connaught and Patricia.
However if you don't drive you will be dependent on bus tours to see the sights in the National park.
hope u have a great trip..
enjoy..
thanks...

There are so many places you can stay. Its totally depend on the luxury you are willing to experience.
You can try Alpine Village. It is located in the national park. So you don’t need to worry about the transport. It offers luxury cottages and cabins. Every cottage has a shower and fire place. It is located in a relaxing atmosphere. It is the prefect location for travelers looking for a tranquil area.

You can also try Miette Hot Springs Resort located in the national park. It is a great break for travelers who are looking for phones, tvs, internet or cellphones. The cost is also low.

I am interested in travelling from Lake Louise to Jasper in winter & doing the Columbia Icefields tour on the way. It seems that the tour buses (Sun Dog & Brewster) all seem to operate in the opposite direction from Jasper to Lake Louise/Banff. Do you know if there is anybody that does the tour in the direction I want to travel towards Jasper?

Jasper is one of the best vacation spots, and certainly worth visiting. Some of the places to visit includes:
1. The Miette Hot Springs
2. Jasper Tramway
3. Jasper Aquatic Centre/ Activity Centre
4. Chaba Theatre
5. Friends of Jasper National Park
I like staying at: Tuscany Villas.

One of the most spectacular attractions of Jasper National Park, a restaurant and an art gallery of world class: the Maligne Canyon Restaurant and Gift Shop at Maligne Canyon. I would like to visit the place again in my next vacation.
