Baja, Mexico - Safety and Travel Info

Postby siestalover on Thu May 19, 2011 7:44 pm

I have been researching a motorcycle trip from San Diego, California to the tip of Baja. I found a great web site for Baja information. Good maps, driving information, safety info, a lot of great videos and some web cams from different locations (the one in La Paz is outstanding). http://www.AllAboutBaja.com
Good luck in you travels!

This forum was just reorganized by Frommers - prior to the reorg all posts about Mexico were not segregated by region. Hence since Baja is a brand new sub-forum, you have the honor of the first post in it.
To answer your original question: Yes, there is a serious crime problem with its roots in drug gang wars in Tijuana and other border cities. For the most part tourists are not specific targets, but you absolutely do not want to wander off the tourist track or get lost in the dicier parts of town.

I have never heard about the place Maja but sounds much interesting. Would keep this place in my tour list.

The latest travel warning for Mexico has relations to the occurrences in Baja-California. Through hardwork by the Mexican government the murder rate comes to very much low then previous times. But it is still not in control.
